Hi, I'm Gilana!
Masters Social Worker II in Cedarhurst, NY
I’ve always been fascinated by the field of psychology and the inner workings of human beings.
I am continuously inspired by the capacity for healing that is inherent in the human experience and the inner pull toward meaning, integration, and coherence amidst devastating darkness.
I like to think of the therapeutic process as the art of creating a mosaic - a unique piece of art - out of the pieces of your life that have become fragmented by trauma, anxiety, and loss. We do this by integrating practices from a host of therapeutic modalities, including gestalt psychotherapy, somatic practices, mindfulness exercises, expressive arts, and family constellations to name a few.
Do you sense life happening all around you but feel like a bystander?
Are you ready to do the work, but don’t know where to start in unfolding the layers of your story?
Do your brain and body feel disconnected?
Are you struggling to reconcile and integrate different aspects of your life and identity?
Do you feel like there are reservoirs of untapped potential that have yet to be expressed, and want to access your best self?
I have learned over and over again that just as stress, trauma and loss often take place in the context of a relationship, the healing of both must take place in the context of a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship.
It is this relationship that I find most meaningful and sacred in my work. Working together, we'll tune in to your eight senses (yes, there's more than five!) to access your body's inner knowing in order to create an embodied experience of growth and change.
I use a variety of therapeutic modalities, including:
Somatic Informed Therapy
Attachment Based Techniques
Expressive Arts
Mindfulness Techniques
Family Constellation Therapy
Creative Arts + Sensory Integration
Parts Work
Supportive Coaching
I specialize in helping clients who are struggling with:
Anxiety
Family Stressors
Emotional Regulation
Trauma (including generational trauma)
Somatic Symptoms
Marriage and Intimacy
Abandonment Trauma
Daily Life Balance & Supportive Techniques
When you’re in session with me…
We will embark on a co-created journey, guided by your unique needs, interests, and energy. I am here to help you become more yourself by tuning into your body's treasure trove of wisdom.
I believe that underneath layers of pain and trauma remains an unscathed reservoir of wholeness and health that is ours for the claiming.
If you’re looking to venture inward on a process of healing and self discovery (or re-discovery) I'd be honored to support you on that journey.
Nuts & Bolts of my experience…
